Pre-Surgery Instructions

You can help us ensure your safety during your upcoming surgery by carefully following these instructions:

  1. Overlake Surgery Center requires that you have someone over the age of 18 drive you home and that someone stay with you overnight after your surgery. Anesthesia and sedatives will make you drowsy and perhaps forgetful. It is hazardous to drive or be alone the day of your surgery.

  2. Please do not eat or drink anything after midnight before your surgery. It is ok to have a sip of water the morning of your surgery to take medications for your heart, blood pressure, anti-seizure and any medication taken for anti-acid reflux. A serious medical condition can occur if these guidelines are not followed and your surgery may be cancelled and rescheduled.

  3. If you take Metformin daily, you may take it as usual the day before surgery, but do not take Metformin or any other oral Diabetes medications the morning of surgery. Consult with your physician who monitors your Diabetes regarding your insulin the morning of surgery. We would rather your Blood Glucose be on the high side rather than low the morning of surgery.

  4. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. Please leave all jewelry, including all piercings, valuables and cash at home. Contact lenses are discouraged and will be removed prior to your surgery. Rings on the effected side (including shoulder procedures) must be removed prior to your surgery. Please do not wear any make-up or perfume.

  5. Depending on your procedure, you may be asked to stop taking aspirin or other anti-inflammatory medications for up to 10 days prior to surgery. Check with your surgeon.

  6. If crutches are required (check with your surgeon), you must obtain them elsewhere. Please bring them with you and leave them in your car.

Overlake Surgery Center staff will reach out to you to communicate the time that you should arrive to the facility for your procedure or surgery. If you have any questions, please call Overlake Surgery Center at (425) 709-2500 between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
