Information for Patients of Overlake Surgery Center

What to Expect During Your Visit

If you are a patient having a procedure or surgery at Overlake Surgery Center, you will receive a call from one of our pre-op nurses prior to the date of your service. During this call, the nurse will request a health history and will also ask you about any medications or supplements you are taking. Depending on your individual health history, there may be additional tests that are ordered to be completed prior to your surgery day. Please note that all patients of Overlake Surgery Center will be scheduled for a covid-19 test prior to their surgery day; testing will occur on the campus of Overlake Medical Center. Overlake Surgery Center staff will contact you to let you know what time to arrive on the day of your procedure or surgery; this will be 1 to 1½ hours before your scheduled procedure or surgery time. Please be advised your scheduled time may change.

Surgery patients generally are not to eat or drink anything after midnight, however, your nurse will review exact cut off times with you that are relevant to your scheduled visit time. Not following these instructions for eating or drinking may result in the postponement or cancelation of your surgery. Your pre-op nurse will let you know if you are to take any of your medications the morning of surgery with a tiny sip of water. Unless instructed otherwise, you are required to have a responsible adult (age 18 years or older) pick you up from surgery and stay with you at home for the first 24 hours.

Patients at Overlake Surgery Center are cared for by Registered Nurses (RNs); additionally, if you are having general anesthesia or a case with Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) an Anesthesiologist will evaluate and speak with you prior to providing anesthesia services for you in the operating room.

Upon arrival at Overlake Surgery Center, all patients will be admitted by our front desk receptionist. After the admitting process, you will be taken to the clinical pre-op area by an RN where you will be “prepped” for your surgery or procedure. When your procedure or surgeryis finished, you will be cared for by RNs who will closely monitor your care. After you are awake enough to take fluids and food, you will be given a light snack and if you wish, your ride may come back and stay with you until you are ready for discharge. Please note that only one visitor is allowed per patient.

There are no overnight stays at Overlake Surgery Center. If you should require additional care after your surgery or procedure, your doctor may choose to have you admitted to the hospital. This is very rare.
